DMV approved driving schools must use the DMV Internal Road Test Scheduling System to schedule, reschedule, confirm, or cancel road tests for your customers, and not use the external DMV Internal Road Test Scheduling System (this scheduling site) or through the telephone.
You will need your
New York State DMV ID number – located above your name on your driver license or learner permit (see a sample)
Pre-Licensing Course Certificate (MV-278) or Driver Education Certificate (MV-285) (Not applicable to CDL road test applicants or Online Pre-licensing applicants)
In accordance with DMV Commissioner Rules and Regulations:
Use of recording equipment is prohibited in motor vehicles. No applicant or any other person, other than a Department of Motor Vehicles employee or other party designated by the Department, may use any audio, visual, or other recording equipment in or on a motor vehicle operated by an applicant during a skills test. The skills test shall not be conducted if the applicant or any other person, other than a Department of Motor Vehicles employee or other designated party, uses or attempts to use audio, visual, or other recording equipment during the skills test.
Road Tests
Reservations are now available for road tests statewide.
Please note: You must bring an up to date pre-licensing course completion certificate. We will not honor expired course completion certificates. Online Pre-licensing customers do not need to bring a course completion certificate, as their completion goes directly onto their driving record.
Effective April 20, 2022, a three-wheeled motor vehicle that has two wheels in the front and one wheel in the rear and has a steering mechanism and seating which does not require the operator to straddle or sit astride and is equipped with safety belts cannot be used for any road test.
The possession of firearms, rifles or shotguns at the NYS DMV Road Test site is prohibited unless otherwise authorized by law.
